IT IS IMPORTANT FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING TO READ THE 'NOTES' SECTION IN THE ARTISTS DESCRIPTION BELOW THE KANJI, IF THERE IS ONE.PLEASE Don't be afraid to ask questions, even if I don't know the answer! This is all about learning as a... a super team! ...Or by yourself if you'd rather work at your own pace without my slew of misinformation... *sigh*
Even though I post a kanji every day, don't expect to memorize one a day. Hell, I don't remember half the kanji that I've done here. It's just practice! Work at your own pace! And if you'd like some extra practice with both your art work and your kanji, why not check out my ongoing
contest? And don't think asking me questions is cheating, this is a learning tool! Ask anything!
What if I drew things for you? Would you enter then? Please? No one has entered yet...
Welcome!Welcome to Kanji A Day, based on Richard S. Keirstead's calendar of the same name! This is a little account I started to accomplish three things:
To help myself learn kanji and practice Japanese
To prove I can follow a schedule and accomplish a goal
To fangirl about APH*.
*APH will be mentioned later for those who aren't familliar with itThis later evolved into a fourth reason, which was to help other people learn Japanese. After all, the easiest way to learn something for yourself is to explain it to someone else!
Also, it's part of my subtle quest to educate people a little beyond 'kawaii desu' which I'm sure annoys everyone to no end. You can learn more about me on the above link, or at my main account here:
Hapo57. I am by no means fluent. I'm just a Western Canadian almost done her first year at university. I make lots of mistakes, and thankfully there are some awesome people here to catch the ones they spot. XD
Axis Powers HetaliaOften shortened to 'APH', Axis Powers Hetalia by Hidekaz Himaruya is a series of webcomics and 5 minute anime episodes about personified countries that has recently gained a lot of popularity between history nerds, fangirls, and critics alike. Though it is by no means accurate or serious, that is probably the charm of the series for most people. It is also loose enough to be able to adapt to any severity the fan artist or writer wishes to convey about history. For my purposes I will simply be using cute, simple, hopefully inoffensive and very poorly drawn illustrations. The learner/viewer/YOU should feel free to draw their own pictures and construct their own sentences in order to personalize their learning. Making connections to your own life and interests is a great way to learn, and essential in learning a language. So you not understanding a picture or sentence or whatever is motivation for you to create your own, see? Haha...
If I were REALLY amazing I'd make pictures in the shape of kanji. There are books out there that do that. XD;
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I'll probably seriously overuse Canada, being Canadian myself. I also tend to drop little cultural tidbits about Canada in my descriptions because I'm patriotic like that. XD
If you're interested in finding out more about the series, send me a note and I'll hook you up with some links.
