:iconlets-learn-japanese: <- before you tackle kanji, definitely check this club out! Brush up on your grammar and kana or contribute your own educational art!

>>>START HERE<<<
IT IS IMPORTANT FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING TO READ THE 'NOTES' SECTION IN THE ARTISTS DESCRIPTION BELOW THE KANJI, IF THERE IS ONE.

PLEASE Don't be afraid to ask questions, even if I don't know the answer! This is all about learning as a... a super team! ...Or by yourself if you'd rather work at your own pace without my slew of misinformation... *sigh*
Even though I post a kanji every day, don't expect to memorize one a day. Hell, I don't remember half the kanji that I've done here. It's just practice! Work at your own pace! And if you'd like some extra practice with both your art work and your kanji, why not check out my ongoing contest? And don't think asking me questions is cheating, this is a learning tool! Ask anything!
What if I drew things for you? Would you enter then? Please? No one has entered yet...

Welcome!
Welcome to Kanji A Day, based on Richard S. Keirstead's calendar of the same name! This is a little account I started to accomplish three things:
:bulletblue: To help myself learn kanji and practice Japanese
:bulletpurple: To prove I can follow a schedule and accomplish a goal
:bulletgreen: To fangirl about APH*.
*APH will be mentioned later for those who aren't familliar with it

This later evolved into a fourth reason, which was to help other people learn Japanese. After all, the easiest way to learn something for yourself is to explain it to someone else!
Also, it's part of my subtle quest to educate people a little beyond 'kawaii desu' which I'm sure annoys everyone to no end. You can learn more about me on the above link, or at my main account here: Hapo57. I am by no means fluent. I'm just a Western Canadian almost done her first year at university. I make lots of mistakes, and thankfully there are some awesome people here to catch the ones they spot. XD

Axis Powers Hetalia
Often shortened to 'APH', Axis Powers Hetalia by Hidekaz Himaruya is a series of webcomics and 5 minute anime episodes about personified countries that has recently gained a lot of popularity between history nerds, fangirls, and critics alike. Though it is by no means accurate or serious, that is probably the charm of the series for most people. It is also loose enough to be able to adapt to any severity the fan artist or writer wishes to convey about history. For my purposes I will simply be using cute, simple, hopefully inoffensive and very poorly drawn illustrations. The learner/viewer/YOU should feel free to draw their own pictures and construct their own sentences in order to personalize their learning. Making connections to your own life and interests is a great way to learn, and essential in learning a language. So you not understanding a picture or sentence or whatever is motivation for you to create your own, see? Haha...
If I were REALLY amazing I'd make pictures in the shape of kanji. There are books out there that do that. XD;

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I'll probably seriously overuse Canada, being Canadian myself. I also tend to drop little cultural tidbits about Canada in my descriptions because I'm patriotic like that. XD

If you're interested in finding out more about the series, send me a note and I'll hook you up with some links.

Current Residence: Alberta, Canada
Favourite cartoon character: Everyone from Axis Powers Hetalia? XD

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the comments on my last journal, haha. I have been studying up on my grammar and even making an incredibly stupid manga about some ancient personification OCs attending Gakuen Hetalia. It's exactly as stupid as it sounds. XD But I encourage you to draw or write your own manga- it was actually a project we were assigned in the last year of high school Japanese! My fall term starts on September 7th this year, and hopefully I will start getting back to updating this site in order to keep me on track. Are any of you taking a Japanese class this year? Is it your first one? Are you excited? This will be my second uni

Off to England

0 min read
Hey guys. I'm sorry I disappeared so suddenly without warning! My family has been really stressed about our trip to England this Saturday, and otherwise I've been working on my own ancient-history-related projects. But while I'm in England I'm planning on seriously studying Japanese since I'm going to be taking it (And Ancient Greek!) next semester. I don't know how I'll survive taking Greek and Japanese at the same time, but I figure if I know Japanese as well as I used to I won't have as much of a problem otherwise. XD; In the mean time, you might want to check out this club #Lets-Learn-Japanese (https://www.deviantart.com/lets-learn-japanese) I also found my sensei's "Sugoi Inter

Well, this sucks: I cannot find the word document where I typed up my Chinese and Japanese comparison. I tried doing a search; it might be on an external drive somewhere. ^^; Sorry about that. Anyway, to ease back into the groove of things, lets do a fun exercise. You probably have some favourite Japanese music, right? (If not, it's fairly easy to find some!) Here is an exercise that you can use to get your reading, speaking, and maybe even writing skills sharpened! 1. Try and find the romaji lyrics to your favourite song. When you're ready, transcribe the lyrics into hiragana and try and sing along with the song (It's best if you don't k

Awesome work! :XD: I had given up on Japanese, and I started looking for tutorials on Spanish, but I found this instead! :giggle: How weird is that? :XD: These all look very helpful!
Haha, thanks! I do hope you find it helpful (although it would be cool to learn Spanish too, hahaha.)
